Singer Phil Collins was hospitalized after suffering an injury late Wednesday. The 66-year old musician slipped in his bathroom and hit his head, resulting in stitches.
Early Thursday morning, Collins’ team released a statement about his condition and details of the accident on his Facebook page:
Phil suffers from ‘drop foot’ as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk. He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair. He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours.
According to the New York Daily News, “drop foot is a sometimes permanent condition that makes it difficult for a person to lift the front part of his foot, causing it to potentially drag when he walks.” This condition has plagued Collins since he underwent spinal surgery in 2015.
Collins was forced to cancel his June 8 and 9 performances at London’s Royal Albert Hall due to the injury, but has rescheduled them for late November.
The singer’s team also added a personal message from Collins to his fans. The statement read, “Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans. He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return”.
Collins’ daughter, actress Lily Collins, 28, assured fans that her father was “doing good” at the premiere of her new film Okja on Thursday.
The iconic singer is set to continue his tour in Cologne, Germany, this Sunday. He also is scheduled to return to London on June 30 for an outdoor concert at Hyde Park.
