An online petition asking that Kanye West’s headlining performance at the Glastonbury Festival in England be cancelled has obtained over 90,000 signatures.

Kanye West Headlining Glastonbury Festival

West, who is known as somewhat of a loose cannon when it comes to performing at festivals, is set to headline Glastonbury on Saturday, June 27th. The news was announced on Monday, March 16, and soon after a petition was set up on Change.org asking that Glastonbury cancel West’s appearance.

“Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world. We spend hundreds of pounds to attend glasto, and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment.

Kanye has been very outspoken on his views on music…he should listen to his own advice and pass his headline slot on to someone deserving!

Lets prevent this musical injustice now!” reads the petition.

The petition is open to the public, not just Glastonbury ticket holders, and has reached over 90,000 signatures from people around the world. Though not all supporters give a reason for signing the petition, many have cited West’s narcissistic persona as their reason for signing. Others noted West’s recent Grammy rant against Beck as the reason. ‘P F’ from New York wrote, “Kanye sucks. I want to see real artistry. Someone like Beck.”

Neil Lonsdale, 31, created the petition, and revealed that it was actually intended as a joke. “I was a little surprised that people have taken it as seriously as they have. I am fully aware that there is plenty of other stuff to keep me amused. Kanye is not to my liking, but then, I’m only one person,” Lonsdale told BuzzFeed UK.

Lonsdale doesn’t expect the Glastonbury organizers to change their minds about having West perform, and plans on attending the festival regardless. “There is so much to see in a festival that I’ll have a great time regardless of whether Kanye headlines,” Lonsdale added.

The Glastonbury Festival will take place from June 24th-28th.
