Peter Dinklage Accepts Second Emmy For ‘Game Of Thrones’ Role

Peter Dinklage accepted his second Emmy award for playing Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones during the awards show in Los Angeles Sunday night.

Peter Dinklage Wins Again

Dinklage, for the second year in a row, was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. This time around, the actor won against Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), Jim Carter (Downton Abbey), Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards).

“I wasn’t prepared because of the other actors in my category. I’m still sort of awed by all their performances,” said Dinklage before specifically calling out Banks, who previously starred on Breaking Bad.

Dinklage went on to thank the Game of Thrones creators, and the expansive cast of the medieval-fantasy show.

“We’re only as good as our writers, and I’m lucky enough to work with the greatest writers – led by David Benioff and Dan Weiss. Thank you guys. And George R.R. Martin, who created our universe. And Lena Headey, my inspiration and scene partner. And everyone else in the cast, which is like thousands of people, so goodnight.”

After collecting his Emmy, Dinklage headed backstage, where he was asked about what struggles he may have faced growing up different than his peers. Though the actor conceded he faced bullying, he felt as though he received the support to help him succeed.

Bullying is a worldwide epidemic and none of us are really spared from it,” he noted. “I had really great parents. And some really great teachers. And that’s all you need really. And the rest is up to you.”

Game of Thrones returns in April 2016.
