Peter Berg is under attack from fans for a cheap dig he took at Caitlyn Jenner‘s inspiring win during the 2015 ESPY Awards on Wednesday night.
Berg, the Friday Night Lights creator, took to his Instagram to voice his disagreement with the gold medalist winning the prestigious Arthur Ashe Courage Award at Wednesday night’s ESPYs, highlighting that a soldier who lost both of his legs was more deserving.
“One man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs,” the meme said. “Guess which Man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” by ESPN?” Berg’s comment to the meme he posted was “Yup.”
Angry fans launched an attack on Berg’s account with one commenter posting, “I loved watching Friday Night Lights so much because I was constantly watching people finding the courage to succeed and understand themselves better and most especially watching people who struggle find their place… I’m deeply disappointed to see someone I have revered so much with my clear full heart, post something like this.”
Jenner, no longer new to the media critics, pointed out in her acceptance speech a few of the haters who said she didn’t deserve the award.
“So for the people out there wondering what this is all about, whether it’s about courage or controversy or publicity, it’s not about what happens from here. It’s not just about one person. It’s about thousands of people. It’s not just about me. It’s about all of us accepting one another. We’re all different. It’s not a bad thing. It’s a good thing.”
