Pet Owners Accuse Dog Boarding Chain Wag Hotels Of Neglect On Social Media

A customer of a San Francisco location of Wag Hotels left a scathing one-star review of the business on Yelp and also trashed it in a TikTok video about the high prices and poor quality of her dog Miso’s visit from August 5-7. Wag Hotels has several locations in northern and southern California and is not related to the dog-walking app also called Wag.

The user, whose name is Michelle and works in tech in San Francisco, told her over 70,000 followers that Miso came back to her in a “horrifying condition” after she was charged $120 a night for what she thought would be deluxe treatment. She claimed that the hotel staff denied her a link to a 24-hour camera feed that she paid for, but she caught glimpses of him during play hours that were streamed to the hotel’s public website.

“He was getting very, very dirty,” Michelle said, but it was unclear due to the distance.

She was horrified to realize after he came home that Miso was “covered in urine, all over his body,” and observed that he was “in a very poor mental state.”

Michelle also said that when she questioned the hotel, they responded that Miso was “having too much fun in all-day play,” and took issue with the excuse they presented.

@_mitchiemitchie DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET WITH WAG HOTELS // pls tag fellow california per owners. im physically ill and horrified thinking how @Wag Hotels | Pet Resort treated miso during his stay last weekend. our pets are our family and i trusted wag to provide him a high level of care which obviously did not happen. i cannot fathom how a clean, healthy, well trained dog would willingly roll in urine all weekend when he has NEVER done so. what did you do to my dog and why did you refuse to send the camera feed i paid for during his “deluxe suite” stay? #dogsoftiktok #waghotels #pethotel #goldendoodle ♬ original sound – michelle

Michelle then followed up in a second video that she had received an intimidating call from Wag Hotels’ legal team. They were first friendly and offered her free grooming for Miso, but she said that upon her refusal they mentioned a cease and desist against her.

Michelle’s video has already sparked a backlash against the chain, which has restricted comments or gone private on most social platforms.

Another alleged customer by the name of Cilla was inspired by Michelle and took to TikTok about her dog Cobie’s experience.

Cilla claimed that Cobie was fed later than the established times during the visit and that she heard the dog crying out for food on her camera feed.

Wag Hotels has been mostly been mum on the whole issue besides the apparent threats., but admitted to SF Gate that the stay involving MIso “did not measure up to our standards.”
