Peaches Geldof, the 25-year-old British TV presenter and former model, died of a heroin overdose, according to an inquest into her death.

Peaches Geldof Died Of Heroin Overdose

Geldof was found dead at her home in southeast England on April 7. Upon searching the premises, police had found 6.9 grams of heroin. In her system, there were levels of heroin in a “fatal range” in addition to codeine, methadone and morphine. Pathologist Peter Jerreat had found puncture wounds on Geldof’s writs and thumbs.

The heroin found at Geldof’s home in a black bag was “importation quality” with a purity of 61%, whereas street heroin is typically 26%.

"The black bag also contained 34 medical syringes, some were with needles and some without, some were sealed in original packaging and some contained traces of a brown colored residue,” Det Ch Insp Paul Fotheringham told the BBC. "There were also 45 packaged and sealed syringes, alcohol wipes and cotton buds.

There was no evidence that turned up in the investigation that pointed to a suicide attempt.

Geldof had been battling a heroin addiction for years, and had been taking the substitute drug methadone for the last two-and-a-half years. In February, Geldof’s surviving husband Tom Cohen believes she began using heroin again, he admitted at the inquest. However, he’d believed his wife when she told him she was passing her weekly drug tests she was subjected to at an outpatient treatment facility.

Geldof’s mother Paula Yates died of a heroin overdose at age 41 when Geldof was 11.

Geldof is survived by her husband; sons Astala and Phaedra; and father, British rocker Sir Bob Geldof.
