NCIS star Pauley Perrette was hospitalized last weekend after suffering an allergic reaction from her repeated uses of black hair dye.
Perrette took to Twitter Saturday following the Television Critics Association press tour, writing, "Did my head look a bit puffy on the red carpet last night? Turns out I was having a dangerous allergic reaction to hair dye," adding, "This was me at the hospital today and it got worse,” with a snap of her swollen face.

“It’s an acquired allergy for people that dye their hair for years,” Perrette later tweeted. “Was in ER. Just got home from hospital. Awful. My head swelled up huge like a melon. Please google ‘hair dye allergy’. Know the symptoms. It can be fatal. People have died. For real."
Allergist Jacob Offenberger explained what happend to Perrette to CBS. "If you have hair dye, and the next day or the day after you start to have itchiness and you start to see redness or [an] eczema-type of lesion, it is telling that you that you are having an allergic reaction to that dying,” Offenberger said. “If you would do nothing, the next time you do the hair dye, it’s going to get worse.”
On NCIS, Perrette, a natural bond, plays the jet-black haired Abby Sciuto. NCIS returns to CBS Sept. 23 at 8/7c.
