Paula Patton, months after separating from husband Robin Thicke, has officially filed for divorce to end their marriage.

Paula Patton Divorcing Robin Thicke

Patton filed for divorce from Thicke in an L.A. County Superior Court on Oct. 3, citing irreconcilable differences, reported Entertainment Weekly. In the filing, Patton asks for joint legal and physical custody of their son Julian, 4. Since California is a no-fault state, whether or not Thicke cheated on Patton during their marriage is irrelevant in their divorce.

The divorce proceedings for the couple that has been together since high school is “harmonious,” according to TMZ.

Patton first filed for separation from Thicke on Feb. 21 following Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” media blitz. The cause of the separation was not immediately addressed, though headlines pointed to infidelity on Thicke’s part. Not exactly quelling the speculation that he’d been at fault, Thicke essentially went on an apology tour with his latest album, appropriately titled Paula.

In July, months after the separation, Thicke admitted that he had not seen Patton in four months during an interview with New York’s Hot 97 radio station. He also weighed in on why things had gone south. "It didn't work for 20 years because it wasn't right—it was right. Sometimes people grow apart. You didn't build love in a day and you don't lose it in a day,” Thicke said.

“[Cheating] is not why we're apart," Thicke added, though not saying it wasn’t part of the problem. "We're apart because we just couldn't be together anymore for a while. There's a hundred different reasons, there isn't just one. There's a long list… I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy, and little too full of myself."

Thicke and Patton have been married for nine years.
