Food Network star Paula Deen and her family members lost a combined 178 pounds, and the details behind this extensive weight loss are revealed in the latest issue of People.
The main key appears to have been not eliminating the family’s favorite tasty treats, but merely cutting down on the portions. "Moderation, moderation, moderation," Deen, 66, told People. "I love feeding people but now I also want to help people eat right."
Whatever Deen and co. did, it definitely worked. Her husband, Michael Groover, dropped 60 pounds, and her two sons, Jamie and Bobby, lost 45 and 33 pounds, respectively. Deen’s new cookbook, The New Testament, will be out in the fall.
In the past, the Paula’s Home Cooking host had concocted elaborate dishes like deep-frying cheesecake and sandwiching a bacon and egg hamburger between two glazed donuts in favor of a hamburger bun. But this diet came on the heels of Deen being diagosed with Type 2 Diabetes, which subsequently caused a stir among critics who believed Deen was promoting an unhealthy lifestlye. Among her staunchest critics was fellow food personality Anthony Bourdain. The spat between the two figures is chronicled comically by Uinterview comedian Jay Welch below.
