Paul Winter's Winter Solstice Celebration
Paul Winter has been celebrating the Winter Solstice for 40 years – and it shows! Winter’s ceremonies takes place in New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine with music and dance and a spectacular light show that takes full advantage of the mammoth space. Noel Paul Stookey of the 60s group Peter, Paul and Mary makes appearances with his guitar. The 25 dancers and drummer of the troupe Forces of Nature grace the stage with their energetic gorgeous rhythms. There’s even a giant “Solstice Tree” with pots and pans that serve as gongs during the show. In all, one of the quirkiest and most exciting nights of off-beat culture I’ve experienced in a while – highly recommended!
