On the final night of James Corden‘s The Late Late Show‘s week of London-based shows, the host aired the episode of Carpool Karaoke when he drove down memory lane with the Beatles legend Paul McCartney.
McCartney directed Corden to a few notable places of his past in Liverpool, where the famous band first got together. The pair were obviously cruising to some of the Beatles’ greatest hits such as “Drive My Car,” “Blackbird” and “When I’m 64.”
First, they took a pitstop to McCartney’s old barbershop, then later to the house he spent his teenage years. He also showed viewers where he rehearsed songs like “She Loves You” with John Lennon and how his Dad suggested the chorus to be changed to “She loves you/Yes, yes, yes,” instead of the Americanized “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

McCartney also revealed that the inspiration behind “Let it Be” came from a dream he had in the 1960’s when his deceased mother assured him “It’s going to be okay. Just let it be.”
A choked up Corden reflected on his first experience listening to “Let it Be.”
“I can remember my granddad, who’s a musician, and my dad sitting me down and saying, ‘We’re going to play you the best song you’ve ever heard,'” Corden said. “And I remember them playing that. If my granddad was here right now, he’d get an absolute kick out of this.”
Their last stop was a pub McCartney used to play at, the Philharmonic. Lucky visitors were surprised by McCartney and his band, who were unveiled by a curtain after someone selected a song on the jukebox. They performed “Hard Day’s Night,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” “Love Me Do” and “Back in the USSR.”
McCartney invited Corden on stage for a rendition of “Hey Jude,” which concluded their performance at the Philharmonic.
