Patty Jenkins just closed a deal to direct the sequel to her hit superhero film Wonder Woman.
Gal Gadot had already signed on to return as the title character after winning rave reviews for her first performance. Jenkins has reportedly started working on a script for the sequel with Geoff Johns, who oversees the DC film universe. The sequel is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 13, 2019.
Wonder Woman grossed a whopping $409 million domestically, and $813 million worldwide. Made on a $105 million budget, Wonder Woman fared vastly better than the other three DC Extended Universe installments, namely Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. The film was also certified fresh on Rottemtomaotes, and got a 92% approval rating.
In addition to the sequel, Jenkins is also working on a TNT television series inspired by the autobiography of Fauna Hodel. The project would feature Wonder Woman star Chris Pine.
Wonder Woman is also coming to stores on Blu-ray in just one week.
