Patsy Swayne, the mother of movie star Patrick Swayze and a dance instructor and choreographer, died on Monday in Simi Valley. She was 86.
Swayze had suffered a stroke on Sept. 8, reported the Houston Chronicle, but no official cause of death has been given. Her passing was announced by publicist Annette Wolf, reported the Los Angeles Times
After becoming interested in dance at a young age, Swayze sought to turn her passion into a career. While making a name for herself in Houston with the Houston Jazz Ballet Company and her own studio, she was tapped to choreograph Urban Cowboy in 1980. That same year, Swayze uprooted to the West Coast where she directed a Simi Valley dance studio.

In addition to Urban Cowboy, Swayze also choreographed Liar’s Moon, Hope Floats and her son and daughter-in-law Lisa Niemi Swayze’s 2003 film One Last Dance.
