Pastor Gerald Glenn, Who Defied Social Distance Instructions To Hold Church Services, Dies From Coronavirus At 66

Richmond, Virginia Bishop Gerald Glenn, who continued to hold church services despite social distance instructions, contracted the coronavirus and died Saturday at 66. 

The pastor was the bishop and founder of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Chesterfield, Virginia. The announcement of his death was made during an Easter sermon, which was posted online on the Facebook page of the Richmond-area Pentecostal Congregation.

Glenn vowed that he would continue preaching “unless I’m in jail or the hospital.” 

Glenn’s wife has also tested positive for COVID-19. 

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine posted a tribute to Glenn on his Twitter account. 

“He was a friend and pillar of Richmond faith community. May all do as much for so many.” 

My heart sinks as I learn this morning that Bishop Gerald Glenn, pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, died yesterday from COVID-19. He was a friend and pillar of Richmond faith community. May all do as much for so many.

Kaine was also participated in the vigil that the church held for Bishop Glenn.
