Parks and Recreation’s season five finale, "Are You Better Off?," focused on the mystery behind a positive pregnancy test, and ended with a few cliffhangers to excite fans for next fall.

Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones), Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) and the rest of the crew are at Ron Swanson’s (Nick Offerman) cabin, when Andy (Chris Pratt) finds a positive pregnancy test in the garbage. He goes into Bert Macklin-mode, and most of the female characters are implicated in the investigation as possible moms-to-be—Leslie refuses to drink, April (Aubrey Plaza) behaves extra-weird, Mona Lisa (Jenny Slate) is nauseated and Ann has been trying to get pregnant all season. These leads are all ultimately fruitless, and the end it's actually Ron’s main squeeze, Diane (Lucy Lawless), who is expecting.

In other news, Leslie has to handle a group of Pawnee citizens who wanted to kick her out of office and April learns that she has been accepted to veterinarian school, but it means she will have to move to Bloomington, Ind., which will add some drama to her marriage with Andy. Fans will have to wait until next season how matters unfold, in particular how Ron takes the news that he will be a father.

“It’s his [Ron’s] life that we’ve been following for five years, so that story can play out in a lot of different areas of his life,” Parks and Recreation executive producer Michael Schur told Entertainment Weekly about how Ron's situation will affect next season. “He’s going to go through a significant transformation as he prepares to do this gigantic thing, which is to become a biological father. That’s obviously going to be a big part of the year for his character, and it won’t only be in the ‘I have to read some baby books and figure out how to change diapers’ kind of way.' ”

Parks and Recreation will return to NBC next fall.
