‘Parks And Recreation’ Actor Micah Beals Charged With Vandalizing George Floyd Statue

Micah Beals, an actor on the hit comedy Parks and Recreation, has been charged with second-degree criminal mischief after he allegedly vandalized a statue of George Floyd in New York City.

The statue was moved to Union Square Park earlier this summer after being unveiled on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn at a Juneteenth celebration. The bust had been vandalized before in Brooklyn five days after being installed, painted with black paint and with an alleged logo of a white supremacist group.

Floyd’s statue is surrounded by busts of the late Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia) and one of Breonna Taylor, another victim of police brutality who died on March 13, 2020.

Video evidence obtained showed Beals riding past the statue and throwing paint on the statue. Local artists were able to restore the statue, but there was still damage left.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) condemned the vandalism and asked for a further investigation by the state police.

“This act of cowardice and hate is reprehensible. I have directed the New York State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to provide any assistance in the investigation to find the perpetrator and hold them accountable,” Hochul tweeted.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, the Democratic nominee for Mayor in the November election, said, “I am disgusted by the vandalism of George Floyd’s statue in Union Square. Floyd’s murder last summer ignited a nationwide movement for justice. The trauma of seeing his memorial defaced.

Beal is best known for his small roles in CSI: NY and Parks and Recreation. He made headlines for violating curfew during the January 6  U.S. Capitol riots in Washington D.C.
