Pamela Anderson is attempting to redefine beauty standards by embracing a makeup-free look.
After choosing to go without makeup, the 57-year-old actress and model shared that she feels “more myself than ever” in an interview with The Sunday Times, published on November 10.
Anderson made her first public makeup-free appearance at Paris Fashion Week in September, wearing a Vivienne Westwood outfit that included a statement hat and a chic coat. “There’s these beautiful clothes. I’m wearing Vivienne Westwood. I have this great hat and beautiful coat,” she recalled. “Nobody’s going to notice if I don’t wear any makeup.”
The reaction, however, took her by surprise.
“I didn’t realize it was going to start all of this, all these people really relating to me,” she added. “It’s a great message — we are good enough just the way we are. I have to remind myself of that every day.”
While promoting her new vegan cookbook, I Love You, Anderson also opened up about how, early in her career, she felt detached from her public image—a persona crafted through her role on Baywatch and intensified by media coverage of her relationship with ex-husband, Tommy Lee, with whom she shares sons Brandon, 27, and Dylan, 26.
“There were times when people were exploiting my personal life, and that was hard on all of us as a family,” she explained. “I created this character to combat or cover up a lot of my disappointment in things that have happened along the way.”
Anderson acknowledged that her public image not only affected her but also had an impact on her sons.
“[They] probably don’t feel they have to defend their mom anymore. My public perception has changed, and you don’t realize how much that affects your children,” she reflected.
Now, Anderson feels at ease showing her true self, embracing her role as a mother and enjoying a quieter lifestyle filled with gardening and cooking. She hopes that this commitment to authenticity positively influences her sons as well.
“I feel like I’ve at least reclaimed the narrative of my life, and the boys are part of that. I don’t want to be defined by what has happened to me — I want to be defined by what I do,” she said. “And that’s the difference now.”
This interview follows Anderson’s recent bare-faced appearance at a Los Angeles screening of her upcoming film, The Last Showgirl, on Nov. 7. She attended in a stylish all-white outfit, wearing a silk button-down blouse with wide-legged trousers, complemented by white pumps and stud earrings.
Anderson recently said that she “feels blessed to be working” after “decades of depression.”
