A wildfire raging across Southern California has destroyed or damaged the homes of multiple celebrities, in addition to thousands of civilians no one knows the names of.
In Los Angeles on Tuesday, thousands of people were forced to evacuate to escape a rapidly spreading bushfire. A mandatory evacuation order was issued in Pacific Palisades. In the last week, the wildfires have spread from 20 acres to 300,000 and are zero percent contained.
Television personalities Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag documented their house burning down on social media, with footage of themselves evacuating, along with over 30,000 people required to leave their homes. In a Snapchat video from his car, Pratt told his followers, “I’m watching our house burn down on the security cameras,” sharing the footage in a later clip.
Montag confirmed that their house burned down in her own post to social media and assured that she and Hill were “out safe, and that is the most important thing.”
On Wednesday morning, Montag posted a video of herself crying to Snapchat, lamenting, “Our house is gone,” and asking followers to keep them in their prayers.
In an Instagram story, Pratt’s sister, Stephanie, revealed that their father had “tried to save my brother’s house but the wind is so strong there was nothing he could do.”
An affluent area, the Pacific Palisades hosts many celebrities whose homes were destroyed in the fire, such as Adam Brody, Jamie Lee Curtis, Diane Warren, Ricki Lake, Steve Guttenberg and Cameron Mathison.
Freshly evacuated, James Woods revealed on social media that he “[Did] not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly, houses on our little street are not.”
Along with a variety of movie premieres and other events, the Screen Actors Guild canceled their in-person nominations announcement for the annual SAG Awards in “an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests and staff.”
