Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he has returned to smoking marijuana in order to combat his cravings to return to harder drugs as his health deteriorates.
In a new episode of The Osbournes podcast, Osbourne, 75, shared that he began to smoke marijuana again to prevent himself from returning to experimenting with more serious drugs. He has undergone several severe surgeries in the last few years and now relies on crutches and a wheelchair.
He said, “I am happier, but I am not completely sober. I use a bit of marijuana from time to time.”
He commended his wife, Sharon Osbourne, for trying to prevent him from slipping back into old habits. He joked, “I am lucky my wife kicks my butt all the time, and she would make life so difficult… even with marijuana, she will f—ing find it and get rid of it.”
Osbourne also revealed he had recently experimented with medical ketamine. “I went to a doctor recently and started to have this ketamine…he put a tiny bit in me, but that was enough to spark me.”
On the possibility of micro-dosing in the future, Osbourne declared, “For me, that’s lighting the fuse… one’s too many, and ten’s never enough.
Osbourne recommended anonymous programs for any of his listeners struggling with substance abuse and admitted to his own experience. “AA is a 12-step program that got me sorted out to a certain degree,” he said. “I don’t go to meetings myself anymore, but maybe I should. I don’t know.”
Osbourne’s struggles with alcohol and drug addiction started in the 1970s, and he was admitted to rehab in 1984, which would become the first of many trips.
The rocker previously shared in a Rolling Stones interview that he was surprised he was still alive when all his drinking buddies had died from addiction.
“I should have been dead before loads of them. Why am I the last man standing?” he said. “Sometimes I look in the mirror and go, ‘Why the f— did you make it?’ I should have been dead a thousand times. I’ve had my stomach pumped, god knows how many times.”
Osbourne was in the news recently when he apologized to Britney Spears for calling her Instagram dance videos “sad.”
