ABC Digital accidentally listed Amy Adams and Tom Hanks on the Oscars website among the nominees listed for Best Lead Actress and Best Lead Actor, respectively.
Adams starred in Arrival this year, a sci-fi film that has garnered eight nominations including Best Picture, but the actress did not get the nod for her performance. Hanks starred in Sully, which only earned itself only one for Sound Editing.
When the nominees were announced yesterday, the official Oscars website, run by ABC Digital, listed both Adams and Hanks as up for leading honors. The company has since realized and corrected its mistake.
“This morning, in an attempt to release breaking news as announced, ABC Digital briefly posted inaccurate nomination information on the Oscar.com website,” read a statement. “The nominees announced by the Academy on Twitter were accurate. ABC quickly identified and corrected the errors. We apologize to the Academy, press and fans for any confusion.”
Funnily, when asked, Adams said she had not even noticed the mistake. Many, however, do think the actress was snubbed and deserved to be nominated for her performance.
This was not the only Oscars-related mishap that happened yesterday. In a frenzy of excitement, the Facebook and Twitter accounts for Lion both incorrectly praised Naomi Watts for earning a Best Supporting Actress nom for her work, when really it was Nicole Kidman who received the honor. This has also since been fixed. Watts was not nominated for any Oscars this year.
