Oscars 2016: ‘Spotlight’ Wins Best Picture, Complete Winners List

Leonardo DiCaprio, Brie Larson, Alicia Vikander and Mark Rylance won the acting prizes at the Oscars

The 88th Academy Awards were held in Hollywood, Calif., Sunday night, celebrating the best in film.

Oscars 2016 Results

Spotlight, starring Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber and John Slattery, took home the top honor, winning the Best Picture Oscar. The movie, which follows a team of reporters at the Boston Globe investigating a child abuse scandal involving the Catholic Church, also won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar.

Leonardo DiCaprio finally got his prize, winning the Best Actor in a Leading Role Academy Award for his work in The Revenant. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won his second Best Director Oscar in a row. The Revenant ,which was nominated for a leading 12 nominations, also won for Best Cinematography.

The Room star Brie Larson won Best Actress in a Leading Role. Alicia Vikander won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar for The Danish Girl, while Bridge of Spies actor Mark Rylance was the surprise winner of the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award.

Room Movie (2015)

Mad Max: Fury Road nearly swept the technical categories, collecting more awards than any other film. Among the movie’s six wins were the awards for sound mixing, sound editing, editing, makeup and hair, costume design and production.
