Oscar Pistorius Reenacts Shooting Of Reeva Steenkamp In Leaked Video

Oscar Pistorius is shown reenacting the events leading up to and following his shooting of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in a leaked video.

Oscar Pistorius Reenacts Reeva Steenkamp's Death

Pistorius’ uncle Arnold Pistorius had reportedly hired the Cleveland-based forensic animation firm the Evidence Room to create an animated video that Pistorius’ lawyers could use for his defense. Ultimately, the video was not shown during the trial and ended up in the hands of Australia’s Channel Seven.

In the video, shot at Arnold Pistorius home, Pistorius is shown moving on his stumps towards a bathroom door, his arm raised as if he was holding a gun. In the bathroom, his sister Aimee played the part of Steenkamp and is shown slumped over the toilet. Pistorius then shows how he lifted Steenkamp up and brought her down the stairs.

Scott Roder, head of the Evidence Room, provided commentary for the video when he appeared on Channel Seven Sunday night. "If you look at the evidence Oscar's clearly not guilty," Mr Roder said. While Pistorius is heard screaming during an animated recreation, Roder added, “Now he’s really panicked, he turns the light on and realizes the door is locked and the key must be on the inside. So he goes outside to the balcony.”

Pistorius’ lawyer Brian Webber released a statement Sunday claiming that the video had been “obtained illegally” and that the Olympian’s defense team had not orchestrated the leak.

“We wish to make it very clear that the material that has been aired was obtained illegally and in breach of the non-disclosure agreement with The Evidence Room,” Webber said in a statement Sunday.

Pistorius, 27, is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a South African model, law graduate and burgeoning reality TV star. On Valentine’s Day 2013, Pistorius shot into a bathroom in his Pretoria, South Africa, home, killing Steenkamp, 29. Throughout the trial he has maintained that he mistook her for an intruder, while the prosecution claims the murder of his girlfriend was premeditated.

If convicted by Judge Thokozile Masipa of premeditated murder, Pistorius faces up to 25 years in prison. If not acquitted, he could also be found guilty on the lesser charge of culpable homicide, which would leave the sentencing up to Masipa’s discretion.
