In a candid interview, renowned media personalities Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King have once again addressed the persistent rumors that they are a lesbian couple.

The pair, who have shared a deep friendship for over five decades, spoke openly about the challenges they have faced due to the public’s interpretation of their close-knit relationship.

Winfrey, 70, and King, 69, sat down with Melinda French Gates on her new YouTube series, “Moments That Make Us,” to discuss the nature of their bond. Addressing the perception that their friendship is more than platonic, Winfrey stated, “I think we’ve shared pretty much everything and I would have to say, it wasn’t even a matter of navigation.”

King echoed these sentiments and recounted how the lesbian rumors had impacted her personal life. “I used to say Oprah, ‘You gotta do a show on this, because it’s hard enough for me to get a date on Saturday night with people thinking we’re gay,'” she added. “Because if we were gay, we’d tell you!”

Winfrey believes that the public’s assumption of their sexual orientation stems from the fact that people “aren’t used to seeing women with this kind of truth bond.” She and King, who met 50 years ago while working together at a Baltimore news station, have maintained a steadfast friendship that has weathered the test of time.

The pair emphasized the importance of honesty in their relationship, and King noted that she is not afraid to disagree with Winfrey, even on matters as trivial as her appearance. “In Oprah’s life, everybody is always very flattering and is always very agreeable with things that she says,” King said. “And sometimes I’ll just go, ‘That’s just not true. Your hair does not look good.'”

Winfrey and King have addressed the rumors about their relationship in the past, with Winfrey writing in her O Magazine in 2006 that the speculation was due to the lack of a “definition in our culture for this kind of bond between women.” She reiterated her stance in a 2010 interview with Barbara Walters and stated unequivocally, “I’m not lesbian. I’m not even kind of lesbian.”

Winfrey was recently in the news for opening up about using weight loss drugs.
