Oprah Winfrey Criticizes Trump Administration’s Family Separation Policy At Border

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey denounced President Donald Trump‘s family separation policy in a tweet in the early hours of June 18.

This week, Winfrey’s best friend, Gayle King of CBS This Morning, will be reporting from the immigration detention center live from Texas.

The 64-year-old billionaire talk show host has previously slammed Trump for being “insecure” in February. Many fans have called for Winfrey to run for office in 2020, however, she has said many times that she will not make a presidential bid. However, Trump seems to want her competition.

Winfrey has now joined other big names who have condemned the family separation policy, including singer John Legend and former first lady Laura Bush.

On June 16, Legend called out speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan on his Father’s Day Tweet:

In an editorial she wrote for The Washington Post, Bush expressed her disdain for the Trump administration’s immigration family border policy, comparing images of El Paso to Japanese-American internment camps of World War II.

“I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart. Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso. These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history.”

Although it’s unlikely that we’ll see a 2020 presidential bid from Winfrey, you can count on more celebrity commentary on the immigration policy.
