One Million Moms, a right-wing group of moms who band together to fight against what they believe to be immoral TV shows, music and films, is now targeting The Muppets.

ONE MILLION MOMS AGAINST ‘THE MUPPETS’

The Muppets premiered on Sept. 22 and received positive reviews. However, right-winged mothers are complaining that The Muppets is no longer what it used to be, and is unsuitable for children. The new Muppets television show is actually geared towards adults, so there is some truth in that.

“It is not the show it once was,” the group’s petition campaign stated. “ABC has ruined The Muppets. How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children?”

The group is unhappy with the liberal views expressed by the puppets, who in the 70s and 80s did not express such blatantly political views. “The mature version of The Muppets will cover a range of topics from sex to drugs,” the group stated. “Miss Piggy came out as a pro-choice feminist during an MSNBC interview. The puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on abortion and promiscuity.”

While the One Million Moms understand that the show is not meant for children, they fear that not everyone who watches it will know this beforehand, which might result in children accidentally watching it.

The Muppets is only the most recent target from a long list that the One Million Moms have fought against over the years. They have fought against LGBT imagery in the media, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Archie Comics, Toys “R” Us and JC Penny, and many more. Mostly, they focus on television shows they disapprove of, such as Glee, Desperate Housewives and The Shield. Their focus is on sending e-mails and letters in an attempt to campaign against the media.

Despite the name, One Million Moms does not have one million members, but the name is inspired by the Million Man March that took place in the 90s. One Million Moms is in association with the American Family Association, a Christian, nonprofit, lobbying organization.

The next episode of The Muppets airs on Sept. 29 at 8 pm on ABC.
