Several crew members were injured on the set of the Gladiator sequel while filming a stunt scene in Morocco.
A spokesperson for Paramount Pictures, the studio producing the film, said, “The safety and full medical services teams on-site were able to act quickly so that those who were impacted immediately received the necessary care. They are all in stable condition and continue to receive treatment.” They later added, “We will continue monitoring the situation and taking all necessary precautions as we resume production.”
Six people in total were treated with four still in the hospital. All six crew members received medical attention for burn injuries. No cast members were injured.
The sequel to the 2000 historical drama is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 22, 2024. It stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Connie Nielsen with Ridley Scott returning as director.
Gladiator 2 follows the life of Lucius (Mescal) as a grown man. Lucius is the nephew of Commodus, who was played by Joaquin Phoenix in the 2000 film. He appeared as a child in the original movie and was played by Spencer Treat Clark.
Gladiator was one of the highest-earning films in 2000. It won Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe at the Academy Awards the following year.
