White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman is stepping down from her post, though it is unclear if she was fired or resigned.
Omarosa, as she is known from her days on reality television, was previously a contestant on Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice when Donald Trump was the host. When Trump took office, he hired Omarosa as the White House director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison. Not only was she a staunch defender of Trump and his politics, she was also the highest-ranking African-American official in the administration.
Before the 2016 election, Omarosa told PBS’ Frontline that, “every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump. It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald. Who ever disagreed, who ever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”
The White House has announced that Omarosa’s resignation will be effective Jan. 20, 2018, and that they “wish her the best in future endeavors.” There are differing reports, however, that state that Omarosa may have been fired. “Spoke with Omarosa this morning and asked if she was fired or resigned. She said she’d have to give me a call back and hung up,” writes One America News reporter Trey Yingst.
Several reports said that White House chief of staff John Kelly had to escort Omarosa out of the White House after she threw a foul-mouthed tantrum. Kelly was one of Omarosa’s main detractors, as he felt she had too much influence over the president.
