Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps stars in the newest ad campaign from Under Armour that showcases his intense — and insane — training regime.
The athletic clothing company is celebrating Phelps’ last run at winning gold at the Rio Games this August. The commercial takes the viewer through the swimmer’s very demanding training schedule from pulling weights under water to fueling his body with food. The ad is also apart of Under Armour’s ongoing “Rule Yourself” campaign.
The bearded Phelps is mostly in the spotlight during the Olympic Games but this ad takes his fans and fellow athletes through a normal day during his training time. It also advertises that “it’s what you do in the dark, that puts you in the light.”
Phelps has earned the right to call himself the most accomplished athlete in his field and possibly the world with 22 medals in three Olympics, including 18 golds. The 30-year-old is also seen swimming in an endless lane surrounded by dark lanes that represents his determination.
Under Armour also gave viewers a look at the swimmers’ first reaction to the ad. The brand tweeted, “New #RuleYourself spot featuring @MichaelPhelps drops tomorrow. See his emotional reaction the first time he saw it.”
