Olivia Munn Says She ‘Barely Knew’ John Mulaney When She Got Pregnant With Him

Olivia Munn recently confirmed 2021 rumors that she and John Mulaney barely knew each other when she got pregnant.

In GQ’s profile on Mulaney, Munn revealed she and Mulaney were not dating when she first discovered she was pregnant with their son Malcolm, 2.

“It wasn’t anything close to ‘dating’… I barely knew him,” she said.

However, despite Mulaney being married to Anna Marie Tender when Munn realized she was pregnant, Munn recalled Mulaney being incredibly eager to have a baby.

“It wasn’t necessarily, ‘We’re going to be married and live together’ or any of that, but it was ‘I’ll be involved in some way,'” she recalled.

Although at the time of Munn’s pregnancy, Mulaney was in active recovery from drug addiction, Munn shared that neither of them was ever concerned about Mulaney’s ability to father the child. 

“That’s the one thing that made him seem light and happy; I remember he was really excited to tell his parents,” she said. 

Mulaney and Munn decided to raise their son as a couple just two months before Malcolm was born in November 2021.

The couple were married in July and welcomed their second child in September 2024 via surrogate.

Beside an Instagram carousel of photos of the newborn Méi June Mulaney, Munn wrote, “I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter. When I first met our gestational surrogate, we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding that I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”

Munn continued, “I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon, for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded. Méi (pronounced may) means plum in Chinese.”
