Actress Olivia Munn shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Shannen Doherty on social media, revealing how the two formed a close friendship over their shared experiences with breast cancer.

Doherty, best known for her roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, died on July 13 at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Munn, 44, took to Instagram on July 14 to express her sorrow and honor their friendship.

In her post, Munn disclosed that she reached out to Doherty following her own breast cancer diagnosis. The actress, who has been open about her health struggles, described how they quickly became “instant friends.”

“Watching her on 90210 was everything to me when I was 10,” Munn wrote, expressing disbelief at their eventual friendship. She highlighted their connection over their “shared battle” and mutual desire to support other women facing similar challenges.

Munn revealed that Doherty had reached out just months ago to offer support, despite being in the final stages of her own fight against cancer.

“True to form, Shannen was offering her support even though she was in the final stage of fighting this horrific disease,” Munn noted.

The tribute praised Doherty’s approach to her illness, with Munn stating, “Cancer is really f—ing scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength, and grace.” She also expressed condolences to Doherty’s mother, whom she described as the actress’s “best friend, hero, and champion.”

Doherty’s cancer journey began with her initial diagnosis in March 2015. She publicly shared her experiences, including her treatment progress, on social media platforms.

In April 2017, she announced that her cancer was in remission. However, she later faced uncertain test results, maintaining a positive outlook as she continued to battle the disease.
