Laura Dunker, a former high school teacher, was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of having sex with two students on multiple occasions.

Charging documents accused Dunker of six counts of sexual battery, four with one student and two with the other. She pleaded guilty to two counts in October. Dunker faced a separate charge for tampering with evidence around Nov. 6 2019 after an investigation had already opened.

On Thursday, Dunker was sentenced to two years in prison for each count. Both counts will be served at the same time, meaning Dunker will be in prison for two years. She will be on probation for five years after that and will have to re-register as a Tier III sex offender every 90 days for the rest of her life.

Dunker worked at Bedford High School in Bedford, Ohio. The alleged incidents occurred between Nov. 1 2018 and Oct. 19 2019. According to the indictment, Dunker brought the students to her home on two instances. In one instance, she picked up a student before school, drove to a park and had intercourse with him.

“Teachers are expected to be role models to their students and communities which they serve,” Prosecutor Michael O’Malley told the court. “She took advantage of these students and now must face the consequences.”
