Dashcam Footage Shows Officers High-Five After Dylann Roof’s Arrest

The Shelby Police Department, which completed the arrest, released dashcam video footage of the arrest and audio recording of the 911 call that led to his capture on Tuesday, June 23.

Video of the arrest confirms early reports that 21-year-old Roof complied with officers and did not attempt to escape from arrest. In fact, the video shows Roof calmly being put in handcuffs within minutes of being pulled over. The police then escort Roof to a squad car and search his car. Authorities say they discovered a .45-caliber handgun in the vehicle.

The raw footage released is about 5 minutes long, but an abbreviated version below shows only a minute of the arrest and ends with four arresting officers clearing the scene and exchanging a celebratory round of high fives.

Police Release 911-Call That Led To Dylann Roof’s Arrest

The 911-call audio also confirms the story of Todd Frady and Debbie Dills, the florist who spotted Roof’s black Hyundai on the highway early Thursday morning after the shooting. Dills called her boss, Frady, after she recognized the car and pursued the alleged shooter while Frady contacted the police. Frady tells the dispatcher that Dills does believe the man she saw driving is the Charleston shooter and provides authorities with the tag number of the car.
