Officers Called After Sen. Ted Cruz Fights With Montana Airport Staff

A law enforcement officer was called up after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) got into an argument with airline employees at an airport in Bozeman, Montana over the weekend.

A video of the scene was shared on Reddit, which showed Cruz speaking with two representatives at the United Airlines desk after he missed the check-in window for his flight. The senator also allegedly demanded to know the United staffers’ names, asked to speak to a manager a dozen times and threatened to call the airline’s corporate headquarters.

An officer was then sent to help handle the situation, according to Scott Humphrey, the deputy director of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.

“One of our Public Safety Officers (PSO) was in the ticket lobby and was asked to assist with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter (which is not unusual),” Humphrey said. “The passenger had missed the check-in window for his flight, and rebooking options were limited out of Bozeman due to spring break.”

The Reddit user who posted the video claimed that Cruz was “frustrated” at the two airline employees and “wouldn’t calm down.”

“Our PSO didn’t realize he was dealing with Senator Cruz until after the fact,” Humphrey added.

Another law enforcement officer eventually stepped in to assist; Cruz was then booked on another flight and left the airport later that evening.

Cruz left Bozeman and made it back to Washington, D.C., just before Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on Monday.
