Octavia Spencer has apologized for a joke she made about Britney Spears‘s engagement. After Spears announced her engagement, Spencer commented telling the actress to sign a prenup.

Spencer clarified that she was joking in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“Y’all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me I made a joke. My intention was to make them laugh not cause pain,” she wrote. “I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of. Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We’re thrilled for her. So let’s show them love.”

It doesn’t seem that there are any hard feelings over the comment, since Sam Asghari, Spears Fiancé, commented on the post.

“You are very kind to clarify but i have no hard feelings whatsoever,” he said. “Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory.”

Asghari seemed to take the comment is jest at first as well, since he made a humorous callout to it on his Instagram story.
