O.J. Simpson May Be Released From Prison Soon

O.J. Simpson could be released from prison this year, after spending almost a decade behind bars.

The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners confirmed on Tuesday that a parole hearing for Simpson has been scheduled for July 20.

Simpson could be paroled as soon as October after serving just 9 years of his 33-year sentence for kidnapping, robbery and assault.

The 2007 crime, during which Simpson and others stole some 800 items from a Las Vegas hotel room, came a little over a decade after he was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.

Simpson is currently being held at the Lovelock Correctional Center. Apparently, all of his efforts are focused on getting paroled as soon as possible. “From what I’ve been told, the primary focus of his life is to get parole right now,” David Ng told USA Today. “What I’ve been told is that he’s on excellent behavior, he avoids problems when he can and that he really wants to be a free man.”

Simpson was already paroled on 5 of his 12 charges in 2013, after successfully arguing he had displayed good behavior while behind bars. However, he had to serve at least 4 more years in prison at that time.

Former Chairman Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners Thomas Patton said that the board’s current options were to “grant release on parole, deny parole at this time and reconsider O.J. for parole at a later date, or deny parole and require O.J. to serve the remainder of his final sentence.”

“State law requires that the board consider the severity of the crime and various risk and other factors before deciding whether or not to grant parole,” Patton said in a statement.

Simpson’s attorney in Las Vegas, Malcolm LaVergne, said he will be with his client at the medium-security prison.

“If he’s able to get parole, my prediction is he’s going to want to live a quiet life,” LaVergne said in a recent interview.
