The Nintendo Switch launched on March 3, 2017, and since then it has become a juggernaut in the video game industry. In that time since its release, the Switch has even broke a new sales record.
According to Nintendo’s internal figures, the Switch has sold over 4.8 million units within its first ten months. The previous record holder was Nintendo’s Wii, which sold over 4 million consoles in its equivalent period. Personally speaking, I have an overall favorable opinion of the system.
Nintendo’s Switch has garnered over 300 video games in its library, including critically acclaimed titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo also notes how over 60 percent and 55 percent of those with a Switch respectively own Odyssey and Breath of the Wild. Moreover, the Switch has been developing a nice collection of software from third-parties and indie developers.
Currently, the Switch’s roster of 2018 offerings is rather sparse, with new installments in the Kirby and Yoshi franchises announced, along with re-releases of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 as Nintendo’s only announced titles. However, fan speculation for a Nintendo Direct has been running rampant. If Nintendo is indeed planning one soon, then we’ll get at least a partial outline for Nintendo’s 2018 plans for their flagship platform. It’s also been confirmed that Capcom will support the system more this year, with an unannounced Ace Attorney project and Mega Man 11 being among their projects.
