Nicole Kidman’s father, Tony Kidman, has died after reportedly suffering a fall in a Singapore hotel, and local authorities are currently investigating.

Kidman’s father was in Singapore visiting Kidman’s sister, Antonia Marran, her husband and their six kids. Kidman released a short statement following her father’s death, asking the public for privacy. “The family is in shock and is grieving. I think that some time and privacy is needed to deal with this shock and tragedy,” said Kidman’s rep.

Tony Kidman, a clinical psychologist at the University of Technology in Sydney, was in his 80s and is believed to have died after an accidental fall, and Singapore police say Tony died in a hospital. “Police are investigating the unnatural death,” a spokesperson for the police said. In Singapore, an “unnatural death” is reportedly used to categorize falls and other accidental deaths.

“During his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly – as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner. Tony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time,” said UTS Vice-Chancellor Attila Brungs.
