Hollywood star Nicolas Cage will be playing Joe Exotic in a new scripted series based on Netflix’s hit, Tiger King. The show will be Cage’s first-ever TV series role.
The story centers around Joe Schreibvogel, better known as Joe Exotic, an eccentric zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park even as he appears to be going mad. The series will follow Joe and explore how he became Joe Exotic.
Schreibvoge was a zookeeper in Oklahoma who used Joe Exotic as his stage name. He became known for his tiger collections and unsuccessful attempts to run for public offices.
In 2019, Schreibvoge was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison on charges including animal abuse and ordering the contract killing of Big Cat Rescue CEO Carole Baskin.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness first aired on March 20 on Netflix and soon became a hit, which was viewed by 34 million people in its first 10 days.
The show is now a 86% rating on the Rotten Tomato.
