Nicolas Cage is “devastated” by the death of his ex-wife, Lisa Marie Presley.

“Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met. She lit up every room and I am heartbroken,” the actor, 59, said in a statement.

Presley went into cardiac arrest early Thursday morning and was rushed to West Hills Hospital and Medical Center.

She passed away several hours later at the age of 54. She is survived by three of her children: 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley, and 33-year-old Riley Keough.

Her oldest son Benjamin Keough committed suicide in July 2020.

“I find some solace in believing that she is reunited with her son Benjamin,” Cage added in his statement.

Cage and Presley met in October 2000, and began dating publicly in May 2001. They were married on the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death.

They held a private ceremony in Hawaii and broke up less than four months after the wedding. The divorce was finalized in 2004.

At the time of the breakup, Lisa Marie said she was sad over the split but admitted that she did not believe they should have been married in the first place.

Cage made a statement of his own saying, “I did not comment on the marriage, I will not comment on the divorce.”

While the romance was short-lived, Cage did not express any negative sentiments toward Presley and the two have been on good terms since the divorce.

Cage was just one of many well-known people who arrived at the hospital this morning to pay their respects.

Among them were also John Travolta, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

Her mother, Priscilla Presley, issued a statement following the death of her daughter, remembering her as “the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known.” She asked for privacy for the family as they “try to deal with this profound loss.”

Presley died just days after attending the 2023 Golden Globes in support of Baz Luhrmann‘s 2022 film Elvis, for which Austin Bulter won best actor for his portrayal of Presley’s iconic father.

Warner Bros. Pictures added in a statement of their own: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lisa Marie Presley and send our condolences and sympathy to her children, family, and people around the world who loved her. She was an invaluable partner and a truly lovely person whom we remember as a devoted mother, beloved daughter and loving friend.”

Presley will be laid to rest at Graceland, next to her late son Benjamin.
