Robert Maraj, father to rapper Nicki Minaj has died at the age of 64 in New York.
According to Nassau County Police, Maraj was confirmed to be the victim of a hit-and-run on Friday at 6:15 p.m. in Mineola, Long Island. Maraj was walking at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue when he was struck. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Minaj has yet to publicly addressed her father’s death.
The “Super Bass” singer’s relationship has be strained with her father. In a 2012 Guardian interview, Minaj admitted that her father was “an alcoholic and a drug addict” who tried to burn down one of the many houses they lived in throughout the years. Maraj calmed that the allegations against him were “exaggerated.”
Minaj wrote about her childhood in her 2008 song “Autobiography.”
The relationship Minaj had with her father prior to his death is unknown.
