Three months after announcing her secret pregnancy on Instagram, Nicki Minaj had her first child with husband Kenneth Petty on September 30.
Both Minaj and her fans have been excited to welcome her first child for the past few years, as Minaj spoke about in an interview with Complex in 2012.
“In 2022, I’ll definitely be married and I’ll definitely have my two children,” Minaj said. “Ok, I might have three.”
Fans don’t know the gender of the baby yet, but Minaj has previously expressed that she hoped for a baby boy.
“I’m so attached to my little brother and I felt like that was my real son,” she said. “And boys, they’re just so, I don’t know… My heart just melts when I see them.”
Minaj also frequently refers to her “sons” – rappers whose careers she gave birth to – in her music, leading her fans (also known as Barbz) to dub themselves her sons. In turn, fans have also taken to endearingly calling Minaj’s newborn their sibling to express excitement over her pregnancy over Twitter.
Despite fans’ requests, Minaj herself still has yet to announce the baby’s birth, name, or gender, but her mother, Carol Maraj, has confirmed the rumors of delivery via an Instagram post of fanart of Nicki.
“Thank you Lord for Blessing my daughter Nicki Minaj with a beautiful bundle of joy!” the self proclaimed glam-ma wrote under the post. “You have always been a Blessing to myself and your family, and now you have received one of the best Blessings from God.”
Though Minaj herself has yet to follow up on the announcement, impatient Barbz have taken to commenting under her most recent (but unrelated) Instagram post to congratulate her on her baby’s birth.
