Rapper Nicki Minaj has a new feud with Italian shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti after he refused to take her call about a collection.
Despite using Minaj’s first name on multiple pairs of sneakers in his line, Zanotti will not speak to Minaj about collaborating, according to the singer. “This is wonderful. #GiuseppeZanotti seems to think it’s ok to name his sneakers after me but his PR says they won’t take our call,” she wrote on Twitter.
The designer has previously teamed up with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Zayn Malik and Kanye West for limited-time collections. “I met #GiuseppeZanotti years ago,” Minaj continued. “At which time, he told me I inspired him to design a sneaker in my honor. Wore them on the cover of Cosmo. … Recently when he gave other artists capsule collections, my agency reached out and was told they’re not taking our call. Just go on google, you’ll see all the different pairs he’s named after me. Lil black girl can inspire u but ain’t worth a collection my n-g?”
She posted a screenshot of the “Nicki” sneaker collection on Instagram along with a long passage accusing Zanotti of “disrespect” and “racism.” “Dear @giuseppezanottidesign #RunMeMyCHECK your PR must’ve fell & bumped their head when they told my agency they weren’t discussing anything with us. I’m giving you 24 hours. ? #GiuseppeWhatsGood 23 pairs of sneakers in my collection & they won’t take a call?”
Afterward she clarified that it isn’t about the money, she just wants respect. “Give some money to charity in my name or smthn,” she said.
Apparently Zanotti took action by removing all the shoes with the singer’s name on them from his website. “Well that’s a start,” Minaj said. “Guess they taking calls now.”
