Grammy award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion released a new track titled “Hiss” on January 26. Since its release, fans and commentators alike have noted the lyrics appear to be disses of fellow rapper Nicki Minaj.
“These h–s don’t be mad at Megan, these h–s mad at Megan’s Law.”
Megan’s Law is a federal law that requires information about registered sex offenders to be accessible to the public. This line in Megan’s song appears to be a reference to Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a convicted and registered sex offender.
In response to the song, Minaj went on Instagram Live, showing a snippet of a new unreleased song dissing back at Megan.
The lines in Minaj’s song reference Megan being shot by rapper Tory Lanez in the foot during an altercation in 2020. Lanez is currently in prison for the shooting, among other felonies. He was recently denied bail during his appeal.
Minaj continued to make comments about Megan on Instagram Live, including Megan’s rapping abilities: “You have three Grammys and you have to learn how to rap on the beat and be comfortable in the music.”
Other rappers that Megan seemingly dissed on “Hiss” include Drake, DaBaby and Pardison Fontaine.
Before the release of “Hiss,” Megan dropped another single titled “Cobra” which talked about her struggles with depression and anxiety. Both “Hiss” and “Cobra” will appear on her upcoming third studio album.
