Nicki Minaj Claims LaGuardia HS Denied Her Request To Speak To Students

Nicki Minaj claims she offered to speak at her alma mater, New York's famous LaGuardia High School, and was denied by the principal.

Nicki Minaj "Not Good Enough" For LaGuardia?

On Thursday, Sept. 11, Minaj tweeted a series of messages, claiming the principal of LaGuardia High School had denied her request to speak to students. “I wanted to go back to my HS and speak to the students but the new principle declined. No need for me to inspire them, I guess,” Minaj wrote.

Fans were quick to rush to the “Anaconda” singer’s defense, tweeting out messages of support to the rapper. Minaj, who graduated in 2000, has not elaborated on her offer, but fans have begun to contact the school to campaign for Minaj to be invited back.

Fans have also begun posting angry messages on LaGuardia High School principal Lisa Mars’ Rate My Teachers profile. “This b—h is dead a— wrong for telling Nicki she can’t come speak to the kids. Like how is letting SUCCESSFUL alum come and inspire these kids wrong? F—k that b—h,” wrote one Minaj supporter.

NYC Department of Education Responds

The New York City Department of Education has issued a response to the controversy, stating, “Of course alumni are welcome back to our campuses and we love to celebrate their success, providing it does not interrupt the educational process. Alumni visit all the time and address students.”

The statement suggests that Minaj wanted to bring cameras with her when she visited the school, which is not normally allowed.

“We do not allow reality TV to be filmed on school property. For documentaries, any visit to a public school must be educational in nature and cannot intrude on instruction, and the decision about whether we can accommodate visits from celebrities is entirely up to the Principal who manages the property,” the statement continued.
