Nicki Minaj Calls Out Miley Cyrus Over MTV Video Music Awards Confrontation

Nicki Minaj was not kidding when she confronted Miley Cyrus at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards this summer, and has once again called the former Disney star out.

Nicki Minaj Blasts Miley Cyrus

“I saw [Cyrus] just looking at me, with her face screwed up, and I thought, What the!” Minaj told T Magazine, referring to the now infamous moment in which Minaj turned her attention to the VMA host Cyrus after collecting her award for Best Hip-Hop Video. “Now, back to this b—h that had a lot to say about me in the press,” Minaj had said. “Miley, what’s good?”

Earlier that month, Cyrus had weighed in on Minaj’s Twitter spat with Taylor Swift. After Minaj had tweeted, “If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, ‘Anaconda’ would be nominated,’’ adding, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated,” Swift had thought that the rapper was speaking about her and confronted her. Eventually, the two artists cleared the air – but Cyrus had a few criticisms for how Minaj handled herself.

“I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it,” Cyrus told The New York Times. “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite.”

Minaj, tired of attempts to censor or silence her, doesn’t think that Cyrus has taken the time to truly evaluate the issues pertaining to black female artists. And, according to Minaj, since Cyrus appropriates black culture in her music and act, it’s almost her responsibility to understand it and learn about the issues – not just how to twerk.

“The fact that you feel upset about me speaking on something that affects black women makes me feel like you have some big balls,” Minaj told T Magazine. “You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important? Come on, you can’t want the good without the bad.”

“If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us,” Minaj added. “You shouldn’t not want to know that.”
