Nick Gordon has been found legally responsible in the death of his late girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford ruled that Gordon was civilly liable for Bobbi Kristina’s death in court in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday morning. According to Bedford, since Gordon failed to appear in court for the civil trial twice, what Bobbi Kristina’s estate alleged in the lawsuit is admitted by Gordon through omission.
Among the allegations presented by the state was the claim that Gordon had administered a “toxic” cocktail of drugs that left her unconscious. The estate further claimed that Gordon then placed her facedown in the tub of water.
Bobbi Kristina’s estate had sued Brown for $50 million over her death in the lawsuit that was filed last year. As of yet, the judge has not determined the amount of damages to award.
“In court today, we finally finished a long journey for justice for Bobbi Kristina Brown,” Bobbi Kristina’s attorney R. David Ware told 11 Alive. “The court agrees with us, by striking Mr. Gordon’s answer that he is legally responsible for her death. The only thing left to prove is the value of her life. We intend to do that.”
Gordon found Bobbi Kristina unresponsive in a bathtub in her Atlanta area condo on Jan. 31, 2015. Despite efforts to save her, Bobbi Kristina remained in a medically induced coma for several months. She was pronounced dead July 26.
