Nicholas Brendon, who starred as Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was arrested on Friday night in Boise, Idaho, after an appearance at Tree City Comic Con.
Brendon was arrested on suspicion of damaging property and resisting arrest on Friday, Oct. 17. Brendon was reportedly causing a disturbance at a hotel lobby and refused to calm down after officers appeared on the scene. Police believe Brendon showed “sings of intoxication” and began to walk away, causing his arrest.
The hotel staff claimed that Brendon broke a decorative dish, and the actor was booked for malicious injury to property and resisting or obstructing officers. Brendon was released early Saturday morning after posting $600 bond.
On Monday, Brendon posted a statement to his official Facebook page, writing, “I apologize. Usually those words end a message like this, but I am beginning with them to emphasize how much I regret disappointing my family, my fans, and myself.”
Brendon wrote that, on Friday night, he mixed prescription pain medication with alcohol, causing his erratic behavior. “For the past 5 days, I have been taking prescription pain medication to help me manage a cyst behind my knee cap, which is scheduled for corrective surgery on Monday morning. I made the poor decision to mix this prescribed medication with alcohol. The result was embarrassing and unacceptable,” Brendon admitted.
In conclusion, Brendon announced he would be seeking “appropriate treatment and therapy” following his arrest, calling his apology “the beginning of my recovery.”
“During this difficult time, I appreciate understandings as I pursue rehabilitation – and I value and support as I earn redemption with my family, friends, and fans,” Brendon wrote.
This is the second time Brendon has been arrested on charges of damaging property and disorderly conduct. In 2010, Brendon was arrested California and met with a string of misdemeanor charges. He was sentenced to 1-year suspended sentence and 36 months of probation.
Recently, Brendon married Moona Tee in Las Vegas.
