New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has finally broken his silence on the long-standing rift with his conservative family, addressing rumors that his ex-girlfriend Olivia Munn was at the center of the estrangement.

In an upcoming biography, Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers, the NFL star refutes claims that Munn was responsible for the family’s problems. He explains that these issues started long before he met Munn and have complicated reasons behind them.

The book, authored by Ian O’Connor, sheds light on a pivotal moment in late 2014 when tensions escalated. Following a poor performance by Rodgers in a game against Buffalo, Munn allegedly confronted his parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, about their plans to attend an upcoming game in Tampa Bay.

Ed recalls the conversation turning sour when he reminded Munn of their long-standing tradition of attending Aaron’s games. “The only thing I said was, ‘You haven’t been on the scene very long. You’re just his girlfriend. We’re his parents,'” Ed stated in the book.

The conflict gained public attention in 2016 when Rodgers’ younger brother, Jordan, appeared on the reality show The Bachelorette, revealing the family’s strained relationship.

Despite the years of speculation, Rodgers maintains that Munn “has nothing to do with all the years” of family issues. The quarterback’s stance contradicts previous reports that suggested he had chosen Munn over his family during their three-year relationship, which ended in 2017.

Munn herself addressed the rumors in a 2018 radio interview, claiming that Rodgers had been estranged from his family for months before they began dating. She expressed frustration with the narrative surrounding her role in the family dynamic.

There are signs that Rodgers and his family might be starting to get along better. In 2023, Rodgers surprisingly met up with his father at a golf event. This meeting could be a step toward fixing their relationship. Rodgers said that improving things with his family is all about timing.

Rodgers was in the headlines recently for skipping the Jets minicamp to take a vacation in Egypt.

In January, Jimmy Kimmel threatened to sue Rodgers for comments he made about him on a podcast.

The biography Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers is set for release later this year.
