Trinity Rodman, Dennis Rodman’s Daughter, Makes U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Debut

Trinity Rodman, a professional soccer MVP who is also the daughter of Dennis Rodman, made her debut on the United States Women’s National Soccer Team on the first day of the She Believes Cup. The U.S. team faced off against the Czech Republic in a 0-0 tied game.

While Rodman, 19, didn’t score during the match when she took the field in the game’s second half, she still impressed many on and off the field, and some adoring fans threw jerseys and shoes down at her for her to sign after the game.

Rodman made her professional debut on April 10, 2021, after being drafted to the National Women’s Soccer League team the Washington Spirit. She had initially planned to play college soccer for the UCLA Bruins, but her freshman season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and she never went back to the team.

She had an incredible first year on the Spirit, scoring a goal in her debut match and 8 total goals during her rookie year. Rodman was named NWSL Rookie of The Year at the end of the 2021 season and was included in the Spirit’s win of Team of the Year as well.

While Rodman is one of the youngest members of the team, plenty of players on the USWNT are much younger than the usual veterans you see here like Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan. These include midfielder Catarina Macario, 22, defender Emily Fox, 23, and forward Sophia Smith, 21. The team weren’t able to take advantage of opportunities to get some goals against the Czech team, they still held their own impressively and seemed energized by Rodman.

Becky Sauerbrunn, a defender who has competed at the tournament in 200 matches, said Rodman is a “special player,” and “What she did was a little snapshot of what we are going to see in her future.”

There are still games to go in the She Believes Cup where Rodman may get to prove herself yet. After the tournament, Rodman will be playing with the Washington Spirit again, with whom she has extended her contract until 2024, with the option of staying for the 2025 season as well.
