Sony Hints Jaden Smith Could Play Miles Morales In Upcoming Spiderman Movies

While far from an official casting announcement, it was discovered in a Sony investor’s presentation that they may be considering a developing Spider-Man: Miles Morales film or television series and used an image of Jaden Smith alongside a sample title for the project.

The image came on a late slide of the roughly 40-page presentation and was part of a section devoted to their desire to “Amplify IP Synergies,” which in this case likely refers to identifying the best candidates for potential adaptation in Sony’s extensive game library.

The image of Smith, reportedly taken from one of his music videos, came alongside two other known Sony adaptations: The just-released movie Uncharted, and the series adaptation of The Last Of Us which is set to debut on HBO sometime in 2023.

With the other two projects noted in this slide officially happening, it could mean that Sony executives are eyeing this film and casting choice seriously, but there’s still no official confirmation as of yet. Smith could even appear as Morales in a small role in another film to test the waters, given the multiversal connections being developed in these movies.

The character of Miles Morales was first created in 2011 as a successor to the original web slinger’s identity Peter Parker. The character reached huge popularity when he starred in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse voiced by Shameik Moore. He also starred in a well-received sequel to the hit Sony Playstation game The Amazing Spider-Man.

After the critically-panned 2014 film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony has been working in collaboration with Marvel Studios to produce Spider-Man films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This has resulted in the Homecoming trilogy featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, which fans have generally enjoyed.

Other of these collab films featuring Spider-Man villains, like Venom and the most recently-released Morbius, however, have had a much less positive reception from most. The next film from this deal, Kraven The Hunter, is slated for release on January 13, 2023. It stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ariana DeBose.
